AI mixing vs AI song generators
Ovrtone is a DAW for macOS where you make the music and an AI engineer mixes it, by measurement, with your own AU and VST3 plugins. AI song generators such as Suno and Udio generate the music from a prompt; Suno Studio does it inside a browser DAW that doesn't host AU or VST3 plugins.
What's the difference?
AI song generators write and produce music from a text prompt: the melody, the lyrics, the vocals, the instruments. Suno Studio is Suno's DAW in the browser. Studio 2.0 came out in August 2026. You can record your own instruments into it. You can import, record and edit MIDI, and use and automate its effects. Its chat bar (in beta) generates instruments and vocals, arranges, makes mixing edits and builds custom effects. Stems and multitracks export at 32-bit/48 kHz. It doesn't load AU or VST3 plugins. Udio turned off downloads at the end of October 2025, after its settlement with Universal Music Group, while it builds a licensed platform.
Ovrtone is a native macOS DAW, and it doesn't generate songs. The song is yours: your voice, your playing, your writing. Both take mixing requests in plain words. Ovrtone's AI engineer works with your own AU and VST3 plugins: it builds chains from them, gain stages them by measurement and sets up buses and sends. It does this inside the project, where you can see and change every setting.

Who is Ovrtone for?
Musicians who write and record their own songs and want them to sound finished, without learning mix engineering first. And producers who want an assistant that does the measuring and the setup while they make the calls. More questions, answered.
